As a wedding photographer on the Eastern Shore, I believe every couple deserves to have beautiful, timeless images of their love. The story of my dear friends, Suz and Jon, is a perfect example of why I love what I do. It’s a story about second chances, incredible local vendors, and capturing wedding day memories, even if it's five years later.
If you're currently planning your special day, I hope their story provides some beautiful inspiration for your own Eastern Shore wedding.
A Gift of Wedding Photography in Salisbury, MD
Suz and I work together part-time at Downtown Bridal in Salisbury. Downtown Bridal, Salisbury, MD She told me that when she and Jon married, they couldn't fit a professional photographer into their budget. My heart immediately knew what I had to do. I wanted to use my skills as a wedding photographer to give them the gift they had always wanted.
The first step was the dress! The amazing owner at Downtown Bridal let Suz borrow her favorite gown from the shop. With the bride's dream dress secured, we needed a quintessentially Eastern Shore wedding venue to serve as our backdrop.
Poplar Hill Mansion: A Historic Eastern Shore Wedding Venue
Suz suggested the breathtaking Poplar Hill Mansion right here in Salisbury, MD. It was the perfect choice. As a location for wedding photos, it offers a stunning variety of backdrops that perfectly capture the historic elegance of the Eastern Shore. The mansion and its gardens are a photographer's dream.
Built in the early 1800s, Poplar Hill Mansion is a gem of Federal-style architecture. Its lush gardens, grand staircase, and period-furnished rooms create an atmosphere of timeless romance. You can learn more about its rich past on the Poplar Hill Mansion history page. We were thrilled when the curator gave us full access to the grounds for our styled wedding shoot.
An Unforgettable Styled Wedding Shoot
The day of the shoot was pure magic. Jon’s only request was to include his pride and joy: a vintage Saab he lovingly restored. The classic car was a fantastic prop and looked incredible parked in front of the historic mansion—a unique touch for any Eastern Shore wedding photographer to capture.
Inside, the light was soft and romantic. We explored every room, capturing photos that finally did justice to Suz and Jon's love story. For an added bit of local flavor, the curator told us about the mansion's resident ghost, who sometimes makes noise upstairs! It added a fun, spooky twist to our afternoon.
