Wedding Photographer, Dog Trainer, Garden Nerd

I came to be a wedding photographer the long way around. My dad was an avid photographer and my fondest childhood memories are about taking long walks together. My dad, the camera in one hand and the dog leashes in the other teaching his daughter about life with dogs and being creative. Still, to this day, my happiest moments are walking in the forest with my dogs, a camera in one hand and dog leashes in the other.

When my dad retired from photography, I inherited his old Canon film cameras, lenses, and equipment. It was like a long lost friend showed up at my doorstep; I was taken back to those forests of my youth, walking with my dad and taking pictures.

For the first few years, I was completely obsessed with learning about the craft of photography and Photoshop. Seriously! I would wake up in the middle of the night thinking about F-stops, wide-angle lenses, and all that stuff. As I got better and better, friends asked me to take pictures of their dogs and children. Then a friend asked me if I would mind shooting her wedding. I have to tell you, I was terrified by the thought of it. But I don't believe in letting fear getting the best of me, so I accepted the challenge and was instantly in love! It was like wedding photography was meant for me as if all my life had led me to this. It was such a crazy feeling, and to this day, I clearly remember how the entire day made me tingle with excitement. I remember thinking "I want to do this for the rest of my life."

So, here we are, 80+ weddings later, and I am still obsessed with wedding photography. On Wednesday, I am excited for the weekend, because I get to do what I love. What could be better than that?
