One of the most enjoyable aspects of being a wedding photographer is the opportunity to visit many different places. Every weekend, I get to explore new and unique locations. Many times I travel out of state, for Alexis and Mark's wedding I even traveled to Pennsylvania.
I was filled with excitement and anticipation as I prepared for Alexis and Mark's wedding day. The couple had chosen a venue that was unique and full of character, and I couldn't wait to see it for myself. Living on the Eastern Shore, I have grown accustomed to seeing mostly barns transformed into wedding venues. However, the venue chosen by the couple was far from ordinary. It is an old, historic home made of stone, which has a charm and elegance that is absent in most modern venues. I have always admired old stone buildings for their timeless beauty and rich history. They had a unique way of bringing people together and making them feel a sense of belonging. As soon as Alexis mentioned that they had chosen this venue, I was thrilled to witness the magic of this historic building come alive through the couple's special day.
Alexis and Mark said their "I Do's," at Duportailhouse Weddings a 1040 Farmhouse situated on the fringe of the Valley Forge National Historic Park. Click here if you are interested in learning more about the history of this site.
Bridal Suite Confidential
Alexis' day started at a hotel suite she shared with her bridesmaids.
Upon my arrival at the bridal suite on the wedding morning, the bridesmaids and Alexis had already commenced the pre-wedding rituals. I always relish this time before the wedding ceremony. The bridal suite is bustling with excitement, and there is an organized chaos that only a few can truly appreciate. While Alexis got prepped for her big day, I had the privilege of capturing some beautiful moments of her while she got her hair and makeup done
First Look, Yes Please
Once everyone had finished getting their hair and makeup done, the entire wedding party set off for the venue. The bride, Alexis, had planned to change into her dress at the venue, and then she and her fiancé, Mark, had planned on having a 'first look' moment. I must say, I adore first looks! They are always a beautiful and intimate moment between the bride and groom before the ceremony. It's a great opportunity for the couple to see each other and take some photos before the ceremony, which helps to ease any nerves. As a wedding photographer, I find it helpful as well. It takes the pressure off me to get everything all the pictures done between the ceremony and the reception, which is always a busy and stressful time. I love to see the bride and groom share their first look and enjoy each other's company before the craziness of the wedding day sets in. It's a moment that I always treasure and one that I know the couple will remember for years to come.
Guys Just Being Goofy Or the Other Side Of Wedding Day Nerves
I also took some time to capture a few special moments between Mark and his groomsmen. It was clear that they shared a strong bond, and as they goofed around and shared inside jokes, I snapped candid shots of their laughter and camaraderie. Through my lens, I could see the excitement and anticipation building for the big day. These photos would serve as a lasting reminder of the love and support that surrounded Mark on his wedding day, and would undoubtedly bring a smile to his face for years to come.
The Big Moment and Some Rain
As the big moment drew near, the air was electric with excitement. The bride and her bridesmaids gathered around the mirror, taking a last glance to ensure every detail was perfect. Meanwhile, the groom and his groomsmen exchanged high-fives, their joy and anticipation palpable.
Unfortunately, the weather was not on their side, and the wedding had to be moved inside a barn. But this was no ordinary barn. It was a magnificent stone structure that seemed to have been plucked from another time and place. Every detail was original and authentically old, which gave it a unique charm and character. As I walked in, I could feel the history and tradition that surrounded me, and I was eager to capture it all through the lens of my camera.
One of the most beautiful and emotional moments of any wedding is when the bride is about to walk down the aisle. As she stands there, surrounded by her closest family and friends, her heart beats faster with anticipation and nerves. She takes a deep breath, adjusts her veil, and begins her slow and graceful walk towards the love of her life.
Magical Moments
And then there is that magical moment when she sees her groom waiting for her at the end of the aisle. Their eyes lock, and time seems to stand still as they take each other in. The joy and love on their faces is palpable, and it's a moment that they will both remember for the rest of their lives.
The rustic barn that served as the venue for the ceremony was not only picturesque but also exuded a warm and inviting ambiance, making it the perfect setting for the wedding. The officiant who led the ceremony managed to strike the perfect balance between humor and solemnity, making the experience not only memorable but also enjoyable for all those present. The officiant knew exactly how to set the mood - he made it light-hearted and fun, which had everyone feeling relaxed and happy
Following the wedding ceremony, the wedding party and guests leisurely strolled from the rustic barn to the homestead. I eagerly ran ahead to capture the entire group, freezing time in those candid moments that brim with spontaneity and joy.
I didn't want to waste any time and took advantage of the moment to take some portraits of the family and a few close friends. As the rain started pouring down, one of the bridesmaids, brought out a bunch of umbrellas. We took advantage of the situation and turned it into a fun and memorable photo session, with everyone smiling and laughing.
Make Time For Each Other, And Party Away
As the big day approaches, the excitement and anticipation can be overwhelming. But as soon as the wedding day arrives, time seems to take on a life of its own. One moment, the bride and groom are getting ready in their respective suites, and the next, the guests are already seated for dinner. It's a whirlwind of emotions, and as a wedding photographer, it's always my priority to remind the couple to treasure every moment of their special day.
I always make sure to caution the bride and groom that the wedding day will pass by in the blink of an eye, and it's essential to take some time out of their busy schedule to connect. It's their day, after all, and they should make the most of every moment. The countless hours of planning and preparation culminate in this one day, and it's essential to savor every moment.
It's Not About the Size
For Alexis and Mark, their wedding day was all about celebrating their love for each other. They made sure to keep the wedding small and intimate, so they could truly enjoy the day with their closest friends and family. By prioritizing their connection with each other, they were able to make the most of every moment and create cherished memories that would last a lifetime.
Party Time
As the newlyweds cut into their beautifully designed wedding cake, the room erupted in applause. After the ceremonial slice was taken, the real fun began. The DJ dropped the beat, and guests hit the dance floor, ready to celebrate the happy couple. From classic hits to modern pop songs, the music was an eclectic mix that catered to all ages. Alexis and Mark were in their element, surrounded by their closest friends and family, dancing the night away. The joy and love in the air were palpable, making it clear that their wedding day was everything they had dreamed of and more.
